This particular trial is regarding Menigitis drug, 200 children were picked out for drug trials, 100 were given the drug that works (ceftriaxone) and 100 were given the experimental drug (Trovan) that was on trial.
11 Children died after being given the drugs and a dozen suffered mental and physical harm. Statistically that's 23 children out of 200, just over 10% harmed. YES that's bad but flip that around, it worked for 90% thats 90% of those children who will now have a "normal" life. The scandal with this is that the medicine company (Pfizer) didn't have consent to trial the untested drug on some of the children (this is bad, I'm not denying it.. but 90% success rates don't lie.)
The reason why I'm so angry and writing this blog post is because the children were Nigerian. The debate I was having was me against 3 other people (that's how I saw them), I was advocating for drug trials, they were advocating against them.
Then out of the blue, this is said:
BUT...the point here is why they didn't steal drug trials in their location, or test on them selves, [...] from this angle what u r saying "It had to be someone, it might as well have been those Nigerians" ..but what u dnt get is that you are speaking directly to them.
I hadn't even THOUGHT about their nationality, what the hell difference does that make? Do Nigerians have better immune systems? This is about drug trials and the ethics of consent. Not drug trials and by the way they're black.
So I'm a racist because I don't see how skin colour and bloodlines make a difference. Now please, there's a comment section below, feel free to correct me. But I'm pretty sure that viewing all nationalities and skin colours as equal is the polar OPPOSITE of racism.
This got me thinking, I'm a white man and I've just been accused of being racist for not being sensitive enough.
I'm ok with that, as long as it's the same with black men, if a black man insults a white man because he's white that's racist too isn't it? I'm pretty sure it is. Lets have a look:
LOL! Black man doesn't like her boyfriend cause he's white, that's HILARIOUS. That needs to be nominated for awards.
Reverse those roles, white girl brings her black boyfriend home to meet her parents, and her white parents don't like him because he's black. This is racist, that film can't be allowed to hit cinemas.
